In June 2017, Waterwise launched the Water Efficiency Strategy for the UK. This was in response to a report by Water UK that showed that future droughts are likely to be more serious and widespread across the United Kingdom. Our strategy, its development and delivery is unique in that it is a national strategy on water efficiency produced by an NGO, with Government, water companies and other stakeholders then taking on the delivery.
This major policy project has provided key information to and influenced Government and water companies to require “high ambition” on water efficiency in the UK to deliver resilient and sustainable water supply systems. The strategy has led to a major policy shift supporting greater demand management, including setting personal water consumption targets for England. The strategy has also won an IWA Project Innovation Award 2018.
