Challenged with a growing customer base and unpredictable wet seasons, sustainable water consumption is front of mind for Power and Water Corporation.

Through its demand management program Living Water Smart, Power and Water Corporation works with residential, commercial and government sectors to help reduce water use and waste, particularly in the highest using area of the gardens and reducing what is lost through leaks.

Initiatives include a Community Leak Program using smart mobility applications that were the first of their kind in Australia that saved more than a billion litres of water across three major townships. A Leak Find and Fix rebate and a Garden Tune Up irrigation service provided by specialised irrigation suppliers, help motivate residents to be water efficient.

There is also a school community education program, water use health checks for businesses, and a roll out of smart technology such as smart meters and smart irrigation controllers to help encourage water use behaviour change.
